Hip-Hop in the Major Leagues

My girlfriend and I are season ticket holders to the Washington Nationals and are avid baseball fans. During the transitions b/t innings and other little interruptions during the game, the loud speakers will pump out music that is suitable to hear, especially Hip-hop. Some artists that we hear playing include 50 Cent and Fat Joe (Lean Back). Now of course, they played the edited versions of their songs, as there are little kids all around and some adults who don't seem to be fans of the music (I think they should give it a chance and also take this class to see what it is really all about).

Also when batters come up to bat, as they walk towards home plate, music starts playing that I assume they got to choose as their "entrance" music. The cool thing is, a majority of the players (on the Nats) choose Hip-hop as their tune. The players from South America and the Carribean chose songs that are native to their land but is related to Hip-hop, like one player played Daddy Yankee "Gasolina", a little reaggeton.

Other sports also play a lot of Hip-hop during their contests, like Football and Basketball games. This just goes to show you the influence of Hip-hop in sports.

I went to Saturday's game! Good thing we won! Yeah, I noticed the hip hop music throughout the game. I think that in almost all sports, you can find hip hop being played because its appealing. Alot of the game-goers and fans are our generation or near to, so they get into it more. I think hip hop in games is catchy and helps the crowd get into the game. I mean, think about it, what if when Allen Iverson came out, some oldies song played, like "Good Vibrations" or something...EWWW...No where near the same affect as if it were hip hop.

That's neat, I never thought about who choses the players' "theme music." Do you think they personally chose it, or some agent choses it for them? This might be some attempt for managers to tie fans with the players as the people they are...using their cultural background to choose the music that is playing when they enter the field. It's an interesting thing to think about...

Hip Hop music is used during most of the games, even for basketball. I think it is due to the popularity of the music and trying to relate that to the players and the game. They just want the audience to have fun and enjoy and it is like a show and the background music does play a big role. I remember the first Wizards game I went to they had Christina Milian perform during halftime. Most of the people there did not know who she was but they all enjoyed the music as it was catchy and able to be danced to. It is a good way to attract young audiences and to keep everyone interested.
